Suresh Mehra loved cricket as a boy. Then a job at a medical college arrived, and the years that followed did what those years do to most people.
By the time he decided something had to change, he was 95 kg and managing blood sugar, blood pressure, hyperacidity and sciatica at the same time.
The snoring
The detail he offers about his sleep is the one that stays with you.
His snoring was loud enough that anyone sleeping near him lost their own sleep. From inside a closed room, it carried. This is the sort of symptom families joke about for years without anyone recognising it as a health signal.
His body's age, as the community puts it, had moved well ahead of the number on his calendar.
Nothing dramatic
What he insists on when describing how he did it is how ordinary it was.
He ate proper home food. He enjoyed what he ate. He followed the rituals. There was no running, no punishing training schedule, and no period of going hungry.
Twenty-eight kilos and thirty-two inches came off.
Seven months without those medicines
Suresh reports that he previously took blood pressure tablets three times a day, and sugar medication morning and evening. At the time of his session, he had gone seven months without taking either.
This needs to be said carefully, and Kayapalat says it in every session. Nobody here advocates stopping medication or skipping it. Any change to a prescription is a decision between a person and their doctor, based on their own reports. Suresh's experience is his own.
The whole family followed
His sister lost twenty kilos. Another sister reached her ideal body weight. His father joined and lost seven or eight kilos. His son achieved his ideal body weight.
This is the pattern Kayapalat keeps observing. One person changes, and the household reorganises itself around the new normal. The cooking shifts. The evening routine shifts. Nobody delivers a lecture, and everyone ends up better off.
If you are the only person in your house paying attention to this, you may be closer to changing all of it than you think.
